Challenge Series Race

July 29th, 2017

A wonderful community activity for volunteers and spectators of all ages!

Jointly produced by the Rotary Club’s of Sammamish and Issaquah in partnership with Life Enrichment Options. This FREE event is designed for the whole family, and every child is a winner.

Together with Life Enrichment Options (LEO), the Rotary Club’s of Sammamish and Issaquah will produce a gravity car race that allows physically and mentally challenged youth in our community to experience a thrilling soapbox derby-type race while riding in a car piloted by a typically developing driver.

For the race, two youngsters climb into the seat of a sleek soapbox derby-type car that has been thoroughly checked out in an extensive safety check program prior to the race. With the slam of the starting gate, the car’s wheels begin to turn. The cars, propelled by gravity, race down a blocked-off street in Issaquah and come to a safe stop with the onboard brakes applied by the volunteer driver. What an exhilarating thrill for both!

Each car is 7′ long and 29″ wide and holds 2 children. The driver is an appropriately trained 11-13 year old volunteer (no taller than 5’2” and 130 pounds or less); the co-driver is a child with special needs. Lunch is provided for race participants and their families following the race. An awards ceremony and lunch for race participants and their family completes the day of fun.

Cheer them on, volunteer or both!
